Master Class quotes

Joe Alessi working with a trombone student at Towson University in 2011.

I have always loved going to master classes. When I was a kid, my parents were kind enough to drive me the 25 miles into Boston any time there was someone passing through town who was giving a class. I attended master classes at New England Conservatory, Boston University and Tanglewood. I never kicked the habit!

I figured out pretty early on that I got a lot more out of master classes when I took notes. This still holds true today. Below is a collection of links to quotes from master classes I have attended recently of some of the best brass players in the world. Even when one of them says something I say regularly it can still really resonate with me. Sometimes it's the inflection. Sometimes it's the timing. Sometimes it's using a lot less words than I do to make the same point!

Enjoy!
